Mahasamadhi Mandapam
(The Magnificent Sepulchre) The physical remains of the great Gurudev is entombed on the peak of Sivagiri Hill.Today this magnificent Sepulchre stands as a symbol of the Guru’s philosophy and the distinctive identification mark of Sivagiri. This is referred to as Samadhi mandiram also.This mandapam was designed by the famous sculptor Chittala of Madras. It was constructed and dedicated to the memory of the Guru by Sri. M. P. Moothedathu, as his offering. He is felicitated by Sivagiri Mutt and the title of Sree Narayana Bhakthothamsa was conferred on him. The marble statue of the Guru , installed inside the mandapam was carved by Sri Pasupathinatha Mukharji of Kashi. He took it up as a sacred work, observing vows of austerity. It was installed on 1st of Jan. 1968, early in the morning, by Swami Shankarananda. Then the Central minister Babu Jagjjivan Ram performed the Dedication Ceremony. Dr. Zakir Hussain, The President of India inaugurated the Prathishta Maholsavam in connection with the installation. The Samadhi mandiram is open for view and worship (darshan) on all days from 4.30 AM to 12.00 Noon, and 4.30 – 7.30 PM. (During Sivagiri Pilgrimage and on Maha Samadhi day, it is open for 24 hrs
